Hi,

I have a 1995 (I think) Craftsman rider with a 14hp B&S Vanguard OHV V-Twin
Motor model number is 303777

My question is, how do I get at the 2nd mounting bolt (the one on the right towards the front) to remove the starter?

Here's what I've done so far....
Removed hood/panels/grill > disconnect battery > remove pos cable from starter > removed gear shield > removed left side bolt with 1/2" socket > now attempting 2nd bolt...

I've tried both a socket on extension with a universal and also a combo/spanner wrench and neither even come close to sitting on the bolt head let alone actually be able to crack the bolt free...

Any of these I've seen before I'd take the flat/spanner from the right hand side (front of mower) and undo the bolt....it's not happening on this one as the cylinder is in the way.
I did manage to come at it from the rear (left side when facing starter) and get the flat/spanner on the head of bolt but the angle it's on there is no room to turn the wrench.

If I had to guess what my next move needs to be is....would be to start removing the top cover and possibly the flywheel ring gear...IMO that should not be necessary.

I hope this is making sense...I tried to take a pic but ph died

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I use a cheap 1/4 inch drive thin wall socket. And turn the wheel on the starter to the flat side.

Or you can use a distributor wrench.

I know most on here do not know what that is or a distributor.

Thanks I will need to purchase 1/2" socket x 1/4" drive as my largest 1/4" drive is 3/8"....
I was also thinking to look for & buy a 1/2" universal socket...never seen one in 1/4" drive, but I could see that fitting in there better...

Tomorrow is another day...:drink:
