Post year, model & serial numbers as well as all numbers from engine and engine manufacturer. Yes it can, but you will need to remove starter, disconnect negative cable from battery first for safety. Inspect clutch gear teeth on starter for wear, if worn or missing clutch teeth replace starter.

For sanity's sake, you need to post the engine's make/model/spec-type numbers for a good response.

I find it is best to just replace the whole Assembly as one.
The cost is not that much more and you will not have to worry about the starter going out after you replace just the solenoid.

How can you say that?

So you are assuming that the starter and solenoid are on the same unit, like on a Kohler or a Kawasaki? Which would be good to know if one would give decent advice....

But of course anyone in the business in the last 15 years or so, would tell you that a starter/solenoid combo assy costs about the same as just the solenoid by itself, but it is always good to be enlightened as to the brand/model/spec/etc.......

The fact that he asked and the way that he asked means it is one unit.

If the solenoid was on the frame and not in the starter then he would know he can.

It is good that you assume all of this.....It is always good to be sure of one's self, I always am unsure, so I ask questions....What if it is a Generac?
