Anyone here using a stand on rather than ride on mower? I read somewhere that they are popular with some because they take up less space but I would expect them to be harder to drive.
Hi Twinkle! I think I saw it in another part of this forum. Operator stands on the mower. I do not understand why there is a design like that. You mention it takes up less space that is why people like it. Now I understand better :smile:

Some of the large (wide cut of 36 inches to 48 inches) walk-behind mowers, all of which are heavy and self-propelled, can be fitted with a trailer (called a sulky I think -- I'm not sure of the term :ashamed that the user stands on.
Here in the USA, those mowers are usually used by professionals. And they do look like they could be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.
Two stroke has it ... they are sulkys and they are actually a lot of 'fun' other than being out in the heat and dirt...( I like inside a cab)...
They are very maneuverable and surprisingly handy, with that arrangement... :smile:KennyV

Thanks, KennyV, I wasn't sure of the word -- but I knew I was close. Lots of the pros that I see use big walk-behind mowers. There must be a reason.
That's cool info folks, cheers. I have heard the term sulky before in relation to the thing behind a pony and trap. I must research that a little more to satisfy my curiousity! I think you would need good balance and focus to use one safely though.
Thanks for the clip, most kind of you :smile: Having watched it I have every admiration for anyone who could balance on something like that. It looked to be going plenty fast enough as he zipped around his lawn. Those turns were prety nifty I will say.
If you ever get the chance to try one, do it... you will see that it is very easy and a natural almost automatic balance, because you are holding on to the thing pulling you and it goes the direction you steer it... They are fun... :smile:KennyV
