I have a Tecumseh OHV17 204604R (H) and have a very hard time starting it. I have put a new carburater kit in it along with new starter and solenoid but still have a heck of a time starting it. I can get it started with ether but I was wonder if someone could tell me the right spark plug number that should be in it. The spark looks weak so that is my next step. Help please.
Thanks
Torey

Try draining the tank and carb and refilling with fresh fuel from the gas station, old gas doesn't start very well, and gas bought in summer is formulated different as well,
so stabilizer doesn't matter. Winter fuel formulations vaporize/start at lower temps.

What does a weak spark look like and how did you test for spark? If it starts with starting fluid I would think fuel problem more then spark. Check the choke operation and then fuel pump.

According to my Tecumseh manual all of their OHV engines take an RN4C plug. I do not stock or have ever used an RN3C.

I got RN3C from the cross reference in the Stens catalog.

Autolite site says 4055. When cross referencing that on the Champion site. It says RN3C.

As long as the tip length is the same, don't worry about it much. For years Tecumseh called for a J17LM, but the J19LM was used as well. Slightly higher heat range.
