Over the summer I picked up a Snapper 331416bve for free. The mower runs great, and is in very good condition. The only problem is the Left fender and axle bearing were ruined where the po tried to remove the bearing. I have a new fender and bearing in the garage. The nearest machine shop is 45 minutes away, so I am asking is there any way other than a press that I can install this bearing. I read somewhere about using a large bolt, washers, and nut to press the bearing in. How do y'all replace them. Thanks. I'm new here, but my current project is a 1966 Sears Suburban SS12 restore. Think I am going to fall in love with these Snappers.

I have used a hammer and a large socket. Just be careful you don't put ant pressure on the bearing balls. Only the outer bearing race. Or you will damage the new bearing.

I had the same problem with my RH wheel bearing this Summer. I just carefully pounded the old bearing race out of the fender, and, using a large socket, tapped the new bearing in place. So far, I've mowed several times with it, and it seems to be doing fine.....just take your time, and it's not much of a job....spent a lot more time putting the fender, etc., back in place.

Well, I found the problem. After looking at the new bearing and fender again I decided to do a little measuring. The hole on the new and old fender measures around 1.62 inches. The bearing measures 1.74 inches. Did some checking and at one time there was a larger bearing (1.74 inches) made for this mower, but these were discontinued sometime ago. Somehow the company I ordered the parts from put the large bearing, the last one in stock, in my order. Reordered, and the correct one is on the way.
