Hello all....I'm having a problem with my Snapper rear engine rider mower. It was working fine two days ago when I mowed my lawn with it, but today I went out to get on it to mow a little more and the gear shifter won't let me go to reverse or forward, like it's locked up. Any ideas? I'm not real familiar with Snapper mowers as yet, although I've had this one for about 3 years, I've had to do very little work on it. Please help!
I've worked on some older Snappers. Sometimes a stick or something will get wedged between the shifting mechanism or on the drive wheel and driven wheel. That's the first thing I'd check. You can also take a big screwdriver or tire tool to press up on the drive wheel (with rubber lining) gently to see if it's working ok. Other than that I can't think of anything off hand. Hope it helps some.
Check the shift linkage and see if it's in a bind or something jamming it. That rubber lined drive wheel is spring loaded. Lots of times a stick or something can wedge in there. I like those mowers as you can shift on the go.
