Snapper Ninja vs. Honda twin blade

Ok, I had a 1992 honda HRM215 given to me a little while ago that is set up for mulching. Unfortunately, it needs a carb and air cleaner assembly, so if I go with new parts, i'm looking at around $100 in parts, plus it has a crack in the plastic deck that would probably keep me from being able to fix it up and resell it for descent money. Will probably just epoxy the crack as I've been told the area its in is pretty common and it usually doesn't spread any fruther than it has.

I also have an old self propelled snapper bagger with the cast aluminum deck (looks like a Hi Vac, but isn't). Unfortunately, my wife has voice her displeasure towards the pile of grass clippings out back. We live in the town and I've had lots of issues with our city garbage taking the clippings. So, since I'm kinda partial to snappers, I was toying around with the idea of trying to find a used snapper with the ninja mulching set up rather than sink money into the honda. My question is, which mulches better, as i've heard great reviews on both of them?

There's more to making it a mulching mower than the blade. But the good news is that the Snapper can mulch, if the part is still available. The kit is a blade and a plug for the discharge chute. If it looks like a Hi-Vac, it's likely that it's still a high vacuum design, it's just older. It can also side discharge, if you get that piece too. Good luck.

I was under the impression that the cast aluminum decks werent really a Hi Vac deck, that the only ones that were were the steel decks with the rolled lip around the bottom. I was thinking of finding a used ninja mower rather than trying to turn my current snapper into one, I wasn't even aware the ninja stuff would fit it. Was kinda looking for an excuse to buy another mower:laughing: But I am sorta tempted to get the honda running too since it has the more durable GXV140 engine, but thought it might be better off being use for a parts mower since I'd have to sink so much into it to make it useable again.

The cast decks were Hi-Vac before they started using that name. Their reputation was built on a design that really sucked the clippings and was one of the first mowers I saw that actually filled the bag. I had a Ninja blade on my old cast Snapper, and wasn't that impressed. I'm also not so impressed with them getting away from cast decks, either.

When you say a Honda....are you talking about the HRR or HRX series? Because my Honda HRX is a superior mulcher and bagger!

The QuadraCut blades were not the ones pictured. The ones pictured were the Microcut Twin blades....those are the ones on my HRX. My HRR has the QuadraCut blades you described (see pictures).

I don't know if they are better. I like them...that's all I can say. As to if they can fit on your HRR, the new 2013 HRR's HAVE the Microcut blades on them, according to their website. So I would talk to your dealer about it.
