All replies are appreciated. My snapper riding mower with a 16hp briggs & Stratton engine will start but runs for only about 3 to 5 seconds and then dies. I have verified that the bowl on the carb is full of gas. I replaced the plug but no change in behavior.

If you want any intelligent reply, you will post the engine's model/spec numbers.

Also some backround "like" I have mowed with this for years....
model # 31H777-0297-E1. We have had the mower for 6 years mowing 2 acres on a regular basis. This is the first issue that we have had with this mower. my wife mowed last week and then parked the mower later when she when back to finish it would not stay running. It starts and then dies quickly.

First thing I would try is to drain the carb and fuel tank and start with fresh fuel..

Man fish.. lighten up.
Sounds like carb might be gummed up. YouTube has good videos on how to disassemble clean and rebuild carbs

Sounds like the anti backfire solenoid is not working right.

This is my wife's handy work today.
Time before this she broke a spindle on the cub cadet.
This is why you never let the wife use a mower.
