riding mower doesn't start every time. it is using excessive amount of gas. i believe it is a KOHLER motor. 14 hp.

Check air filter for dirt or obstructions; spark plug could be fouled; Choke could be stuck closed; carb could be leaking internally. Good hunting.

Is there gas in your oil?
no gas in oil,
i did find the throttle cable pulled apart under the dash board.
the cable still moves but doesn't move at the end near the carb.
i purchased a clamp today to try to fix it

Yeah, check your air filter. Right now the grass around here is very dusty with the "orange rust" disease and it makes the air filter very dirty very quickly!

i washed and oiled the air cleaner and it starts better ( thanks)
but the throttle cable is still broken. i will try to repair it today.
