Snapper LT125 Model: 2690872 Serial Number: 2014719099. The old belt shredded badly and was thrown away before ordering a new one. This unit has the electric PTO. When I go online it references two belt sizes. One for a shallow groove pully and one for a deep groove pully. How can I tell if i have shallow or deep grooves on this deck or PTO?

The belt I purchased last year was an OEM Briggs part number 1732204SM 91.10" Kevlar and the width looks small in the spindle pully grooves. The width of the belt is narrower than other deck belts I have had on smaller Tractors. Also, after using it a year the wider outside surface of the belt is already showing surface wear, small cracks. Most belt wear I see over the years shows cracking from the inside out when the belt gets old. I suspect I have the wrong belt but other than buying a new one, how can I prove it?

Well the IPL is calling for Deep Groove spindle pulleys so I would assume you need the deep groove belt. PN 1733217SM but that one has been superseded to the 1732204SM belt. The belt should be an "A" belt which normally an 1/2" width.

Thank you for your quick reply, but I am still confused.
1. I do not know what IPL stands for.
2. Both you and I initially came up with the same part number 1732204SM. Partstree.com lists four possible belts. The one noted here is 91.10 x .34” for a shallow groove pulley. This is what I first bought.
3. Parts tree lists part number 1733217 which is 91.10 x .44 for the deep groove pulley which I believe I need since the 91.10” length fits now.
4. Parts tree.com also lists two other belts in 94.45” long in .34 and .44” width. I think these will be too long for my deck.

Still confused.

Talk about confusing. That deck uses the 1732354 or 1732354SM spindle pulley which appears to be the deep groove. The parts diagram (IPL) list the 1732204 supercede to 1732204SM for the shallow groove, List the 1733217 for the deep groove but supercedes to the 1732204SM Shallow groove. And then goes on further to list another belt for shallow groove 1732205 which supercedes to a 1732955SM which says to use in deep groove pulleys.

Thank you for your quick reply, but I am still confused.

They are not referencing the width of the belt, only the different in V groove height. So both belts maybe 1/2 inch top width but the height of the belt are different. So a taller V may account for the 3 inch difference in belt length

IPL > Illustrated Parts List

IL all they did on the part numbers was to add "SM" suffix to indicated that parts are from the Simplicity line [I think]. They are the same parts just a new part number so Briggs can track the correct part not get them confused with other OEM part numbers.

I think the problem is as follows.

Deep in the IPL on the deck lift it mentions a 44" deck so the longer belt is probably for that deck. It also mentions a 38" and a 50" deck. Apparently the proofreader didn't find all the errors or there was optional decks that are not listed.

And the belts are listed as "A" and "HA" belts meaning both are a 1/2" width. This maybe a case like the Murray deck belts I have seen where they have a different V profile. I once had a Murray that V profile was wrong on the replacement belt that had a deep V height. It slipped from the get go so I changed it to a Standard A belt of the correct length.

Still confused. It’s leaf season and I put my home made mulch plate on the deck. I don’t want to get stuck with a broken belt mulching four yards.

I ordered the shorter 91.10” belt in the wider 1/2” width and hope it fits. I think it’s easy to change so I’ll test fit it when I receive it.
