I finally picked up a full commercial 5hp Briggs 21500PC unit. Got it for $60 a few weeks ago. The only major thing it needed was a new rear axle but i just so happened to have a sort of POS Snapper that I parted out for this awesome machine. I also had to sand, prime and paint the engine because it was pretty rusty. But it starts easy, runs great and idles perfectly. I particularly like the handlebar braces on these full commercial units. The new throttle went on today, as the original didn't work properly. Now all i need is a couple more weeks of growth in the yard and I'll mow with this for the first time.
Awesome looking-I just picked up one today at a yard sale for $20.00. It needs some work but its worth it.

Thanks. I actually just sold it today. Got $100 for it. I'll probably pick up one again someday but probably not anytime soon. $20 is a great price even if it needs work. Got any pics?
This is how I got it. Struggles to start then stalls and seems to have a ground? wire running from front of engine to deck-Not familiar with these older Snappers, any input would help. Want to get her running and cleaned up.

The lone wire to the deck, does it go over to near the clippings chute? Mine pulled out of its attachment up near the throttle linkage, I think its a deadman switch, so it won't run without the chute.
Yeah it is pictured in the last picture-it connects to the deck by the side discharge cover

Nice, just noticed you have the mulching cover. I would like to find a mulch cover and a side discharge for mine. Bagging is good, but sometimes its nice to just shoot the clippings out.
Depends on the condition, but that's about right ... I've seen 'em on eBay and Craigslist here in Ky. for anywhere from $30 to $50 ... I just haven't had the extra $30 to $50 to throw at one yet!

That was well worth the $20 u spent on it. OK let's see....someone replaced the original steel wheels with goofy plastic ones. They are often on ebay or, where I got mine, castomowerparts.com. Fronts are 7x1.5 and rear are 9x1.75 (or 9x1.95 if u can find them). I'm not sure about that wire because I have removed it from a couple of my mowers and they still run, although I haven't tried starting one without a chute on so perhaps it is in some way connected to that. The mulch covers are about $8 and the side-discharge chutes are about $23 online. It probably just needs a good carb cleaning. With a little cleaning up (and some steel wheels!) u got a beast of a mower! Good find!

Almost forgot, the plastic rear guard that goes on the axle is around $6. And carb cleaner works GREAT for cleaning gunk off of the engine. Just try not to get it on paint as it will remove it.

Sweet. I do need a new rear guard. Less than half left on mine. And a side discharge. Can you still get the older style bags? Other than CL?
