Bought a new snapper walk behind with electric start. Seems the blade is a bit lighter than the old one had. It had the accessory bolt on wings. New blade seems a bit "tinny" sounding if I hit a twig or pebble. Are the old style blades still available (and the wings)?

They are called snapper high lift blades you can still get them but I would not use them on a new model mower. It is made for pro use on a pro mower.
If you want a thicker blade you can go with a Oregon snapper mulching blade ( not a gator )
You can bag or discharge or mulch with them
Arnold is not as good as Oregon but better than snapper or stens

I assumed this WAS a professional model. Snapper Hi-Vac B&S Professional series engine 8.75/190cc with pressurized oil pump and oil filter. Electric start. Top of the product line. Is there anything else I could have?:confused2:
BTW, thanks for the pic. Exactly what I had on the old unit that I just gave to my daughter. 26 years old. (the mower!)

Sorry I assumed you had the cheap model because you said the blade was thin.
You can run the Ninja blade.
You can run the older high lift blades but to be honest I think the newer blades cut better. They just don't last as long.
If you like how the blade on it now cuts I would stay with it. The thin blade is stronger than you think but will bend when you hit a softball size rock which will put less shock on the engine.
Remember the thicker the blade the more the engine has to work

Thanks for the info. I try to avoid softball sized rocks. Years ago short stumps were my bane. The mower actually came with a mulching plug and the Ninja Blade. I assume that is the forked twin blade. The old one served me well for 26+ years and I rehabbed it for my daughter. I am getting older and like the electric start although the cheaped out on the charger. Tiny 22 gauge wire and a connector that is a pain to take off and put on. Frequently the spade lug comes out of the housing when disconnecting. I am tempted to buy a Battery Tender Junior with the solid rings that screw onto the battery and have the heavy polarized plug. I have one on my rider and motorcycle. Works well.
The new mower seems to be as well built as the old one...same drive and all except for cheaper tires. Otherwise I can't run fast enough on the fast ground speed setting. And it wants to do wheelies like the old one did. Snapper is dropping the electric start models from the line so I jumped on this one. My dealer had 2 and another dealer in NY (I am in Western PA) drove down to pick one up! Hope this lasts as long as the old one. Hope I last as long as the old one did! LOL Thanks.:smile:

What I seem to miss the most is the "lift". The old mower with the "wings" (high lift blade) seemed like it would suck change off the garage floor. This thing hardly picks up a twig! Perhaps I should consult my dealer.
