Smaller 6.75 Briggs OHV's???

Just wondering if anyone sees their valves on smaller briggs needing adjustment. I have a 6.75 HP intek on a JD push mower that is over 20 years old and has never had the valves touched. Right now it won't start, but its trying to go. It has spark and is getting fuel. The books that came with the mower don't mention the valves or the magneto air gap. I guess i'm looking for specs......the engine is a 121602-0269-E1

Easy way is 0.004" both sides
Adjusting valve lash is one of the most common jobs I do on B & S engines .
