For a tractor engine repair you need to hire the services of a professional who could guide you more better. Before that you can-
1. check your air filters.
2. check your gas cap
3. Is the fuel line clogged or partially clogged?
4. Is the gas flowing in to the carburettor?

Regular lawn mower maintenance helps prevent problems, plus lengthens the life of your lawn equipment. But even with plenty of TLC, normal wear and tear from hours of mowing the lawn increases the chances of hitting a glitch from time to time.

Instead of paying for textbooks a better idea would be to search the web for specific service manuals. 90% of small engine service manuals are available in PDF form. All you need to do is use your search engine and start looking. I suggest the first two you look for are Briggs and Tecumseh L-head engine manuals. Both will give you a basic understanding of how engines work and basic troubleshooting procedurers. I'm not going to post exact sites, because you will learn faster how to accomplish this goal. Researching on your own is just like troubleshooting an engine, even Green Industry & Equipment research engineers will agree with me on this.

Gees,
I am agreeing with Rivits again.
That which you search out & find you will remember.
That which you are told you will forget.

It is a case of the old saying.
Give some one a fish & you stem their hunger today
Teach them how to fish & you will cure their hunger forever.

Many on this list could simply tell posters to turn this screw 1/4 turn clockwise and your probelm will go away.
However that is not a "fix" unless the person knows why they are turning the screw.
The WHY is really more important than the WHAT.
Those of us who have taught for a living understand this.

If you really want to know & understand what you are doing & why you are doing it then the JD service manuals are the best possible material you can get your hands on.
In fact the JD sections on the various engines is better than most of the engine makers manuals

Careful Bert, we don't want to get to friendly. I've got a reputation to maintain. I've been doing my own research of those who want us to help them and might just have found out some interesting things. Will post when I'm positive with my results.

Gees,
Just as well Special Branch got closed down when evidence started pointing at them for the Hilton bombing or you might have hacked into my "secret" files, then I would be in trouble ;-)

Rivets, I hope your findings are not only that no one usually thanks you and others. We could have found that out by applying for a US research grant. As I told you long ago you underestimate your contribution. motoman
