Greetings all, I'm new to the forum and lawnmower care so please be gentle!
I've recently inherited the maintenance of 12 acres and a whole mess of equipment that all has issues. I'm brand new to figuring out mechanical/electrical stuff. Before now I could use the mower but not really do anything to it other than check the oil and put gas in, figure I better be honest about that now.
For now, this Simplicity is the number one machine I need running. She's a Simplicity Regent, 16 HP Hydro with a 38" mower deck. She runs a Kohler Command CV460-26507 engine.
So, these issues have been a problem with the mower for about two years now but my father-in-law has always serviced everything and has been keeping all these machines limping along and with his passing in December I'm frantically trying to get things running and learning more about taking care of them. I appreciate y'all's help!
THE ISSUES
#1 Mower will not always start. More often than not I have to jump the mower off with another battery to get it going. The battery is good and relatively new, I do know how to test that. More often than not if I turn the mower off after I've been mowing for a while it will not turn back on unless I let it cool down for about a half hour. Usually after it's cooled off I can get it started without jumping it off.
#2 Mower will not always maintain power while running. This is a rare issue and I can't find a pattern yet but sometimes while I'm mowing she seems to run low on power. Once she nearly turned off. It was some routine lawn mowing so the grass wasn't very thick or long, so it's not like it was struggling with the job.
#3 Mower will not always engage blades. I've only had this happen after I've been mowing a while and it doesn't always happen but when I turn the mowing deck off it will not turn back on. It's a button you push/pull near the ignition. When this happens the button will pull out but no noise or evidence that it's even trying to engage the blades.
I really appreciate any advice anyone can give. I'm willing to try and track down any issue I can, I just know squat about mechanical things.
Thanks everyone!
