simplicity 14.5 briggs

no spark all kills are working turns over but no spark changed coil still no spark. if i put a screw driver in spark plug wire hold it and grab key with other hand and turn it over it will shock me, sorry no meter. thanks Tone

If you checked for spark with a spk plg, did you ground the body of the spark plug while testing?

has a new one. can the ignition switch be bad and still turn the motor over

What is the engine fitted to..? and also need the engine number & type off the Briggs to be of any help to you.
Turn the engine over by key and look at the spark plug to see if you have spark (with the spark plug out of engine) making sure it has a good ground.

its a simplicity express briggs 14.5 type 1149-ej model 285707 it was running fine next time i went to use it it would turn over but would not crank getting fuel but no spark pulled ground off coil no spark, i did get meter put black on ground and red on outside of ignition switch next to key and getting 12 volt reading thats why i thought it might have a dead short? thanks tonerat...

If a specific wiring diagram for your tractor could be viewed, a more exact answer might be available but I can't find one online.
In the meantime give all safety switches a good clean and a going over with WD40 and the reverse safety switch if it has one.
You could also post up the markings that are on the back of the ignition switch (photo), how many wire's are there on the one that is marked (M)
