it aint pretty....the motor looks like its from ww2:laughing:....but the motor fires on the first pull and has great compression....there was an old massive oil leak at one time...but no signs any more...it had to been rebuilt....and it drives in gear with no noises....but the blade puts out quite a vibration...it has a weird blade...im wondering if a different blade would smooth it out....i dont what year it is....theres a safety sticker that says it complies with 1986 standard....but the manual with it is 1996

From the pictures it doesn't look bad at all. Nothing a good cleaning and paint job won't fix. What in the world is that thing bolted to the blade. Was that added or was the blade made that way? New blade/blades will be a cheap fix. You must be looking all the time for mowers to buy???

im in a mower vortex!...people are always offering them to me and im on craigslist all the time.....but not just for mowers....ive got a motorcycle problem as well....and ive branched out to economy cars....everyones looking to save money now..........the blade thing is rivited on....i can see all that weight throwing the balance off

Motorcycles, Just got into them myself the last 7 years. Started with a 750 Hondamatic but didn't like the automatic transmission sold it and bought a HD sportster. I also have two Honda 50cc scooters and two ATV's. Being retired I ride the bikes almost every day. I sure wish I had more room to collect more bikes but my buildings are full of tractors and all my other toys. Just what do you have for motorcycles and what do you ride.

HARLEY's are too rich for my blood....but i had a 1976 Superglide once.....my daily bike is a '98 Kawasaki ZX11...[the worlds fastest production bike for 8 years]......plus 1980 Kawasaki kz1000....1983 Kawasaki zn1100....1984 zn700....1985 Yamaha xt350...1990 YAMAHA XT600....1985 Kawasaki 900 Eliminator...1990 YAMAHA FJ1200..[one of the best bikes ever made]....the rest are parts bikes.....Sportsters are great bikes..if i had one ..id get the big tank on it.....i now have to stick to sport type bikes because i broke my neck [c6-C5]and back [ L4/L5--L5/S1] last year and have to lean forward when i ride.....................i just got back from THE SNAPPER dealer who is second generation..and he told me everything about this rig.......the vibration problem is a worn out blade...so i got a new one [$18]...some new foot grip pads and a shift knob....it should be Snapping again soon!.............p.s. ....you were right....the blade wings [ which are for bagging ] are bolted on...they were so worn ....you couldnt even see what they were!.............also i found out its an '88

The black plastic cover to which you refer goes on the deck - it's a pulley cover. The auto blade stop are the steel 'pedals' attached to the deck.

The plastic is just a safety cover. If you're keeping it, and don't care, it isn't really needed. The screws tend to fall out of the cover, or they had a lot of belt problems, and it usually found its way into the garbage. It makes the whole thing look a little cleaner, though.

That style seat (but with the Snapper logo on it) isn't available anymore, but any plain jane lowback replacement seat will work.

That blade has the 'hi-vac' wings on it, they are used for more lift/blow with a bagger unit. If you're not going to use a bagger - I'd take them off and sharpen the blade. Looks like you have one sharpening left, IMHO.

BTW, I'm sure you know that steering 'wheel' is on 180 degrees upside-down. The white ones didn't have that style wheel, they used a metal yoke.

She's a tad rough, but keep us posted! I've messed with worse!

i took the seat in to get reupholstered ...i did it in red [$30]......i bought that pulley cover [$40]....and a couple cans of red paint [$8].....im trying to get white engine paint next...and some decals [they're still cheap to buy]....ive painted the rear wheels white yesterday ...its amazing how the brand new ones look almost identical to this oldie....that steering is a simple fix....i tried factory red....but the dealer says they've had alot of problems with consistency ....i will update soon....thanks

Nice looking job on the seat. 30$ was sure a good price. The last seat I needed I bought used from a mower salvage yard cost me that much. That seat I had to make fit. We just don't have anyone around here that does upholstery work. I have tryed to reupholster my own but my skills are very poor at that job.

thanks Twall.....these Snappers are really growing on me ....you should have audio....????

Snapper will do that to ya! They make a really quality machine. Very heavily-built. JD quality, without the JD ergonomics and comfort - that's the downside. Be ready. :frown: They are not the comfiest thing you've ever put a blade to your grass on.

BUT, they WORK. And they KEEP working. When they break, you can get PARTS. Try that with a JD RER!!! It's Ebay time for those guys! Meanwhile, you can partstree or whatever - even go to a dealer if you like paying through the nose.

Nope, no audio. This happens with some youtube video for some of us. I was trying to watch a George Carlin clip forever - but there was no audio. Some people heard it, others didn't. I didn't. Methinks it is the same with your production. :frown:

HEY, now THAT paint job came out spectacular! I take it you bought new decals anyway (cheap as they are, and available, too) You forgot the front rims, though......

No other mockery this time! Really good job! Now go and re-paint that Suburban........

#38

reddragon

reddragon

the next time you see it ....it'll be finished....that front decal bugs me a little [ not being the original white/black]...but it looks clean ..........and i talked to the Snapper dealer to see if i could get some turtle stickers...but he said they dont make them anymore :frown:...i guess 10% of the parts on Snappers are foreign made and the turtle named S.A.M. stood for .......Snapper..American..Made....so they've officially killled the turtle..i was bummed...so if you see any turtle stuff..grab it and keep it

#39

reddragon

reddragon

well...its 95% done....the plastic gas tank is faded....id like to polish that or paint it......it stands out now that everything else is shiny.......of course the wheels still need they're paint.....and a few finish paint touch ups....the new SNAPPER decal looks pretty good....but the original style [white/black letters]would be much better.....no vibrations...smooth at low and high rpms now....fires on the first pull everytime....reverse still requires hercules [ ive got to fix that if anybody else ever uses this thing].....that HI-VAC is no joke!...i started the blade up over my gravel driveway and it left a 2" deep manhole under it..DAMN!....if i left the blade on... it would've gone to china!
