interesting story about the black and decker chain. wow.
and I agree too that 2 or 3 swipes with a file fairly often is a good way to go about it.
there is an old Aesop tale about 2 woodcutters having a race, each chopping down his own large tree. the one kept slugging away nonstop and the other took frequent breaks. the one taking the breaks got done first, being questioned by the other , he commented, "while I was taking a break I was sharpening my axe"

no I guess it wouldn't. thanks for the offer though.
if I ask around enough places I might be able to find one locally.

no need to search for a junk bar now. I made these two jigs for sharpening the saw chain.
the first 3 pics is a clamp to hold the spare chain. the chain itself gets clamped in the jig. the jig itself gets mounted into the bench vice.
the last 2 pics are for a stump vice that I made, for touching up the chain mounted on the saw. (parked on a convenient stump or log)
I didn't want the hassle of having to mount the spare chain into the saw for filing, this jig does work nicely. there are 3 moveable insets which clamp onto the drive tangs of the saw. loosen them up and slide the chain forward, and tighten them up.
I am surprised that I could not find a store bought jig for this purpose anywhere.
