Thank you, gentlemen, for your responses. They all helped. I'm finding out Lawn Boys can be confusing.

I finally stumbled on a site which shows Lawn Boy used three carbs on the F100 engine. No wonder local shops were having a hard time figuring it out. The site is https://lookup3.toro.com/ttcGateway/acrobat/manuals/lball.html. Page 4-34 titled "F Series Carburetor Identification" shows the three carbs. The speed control lever I need looks like the one in the middle picture. Page 4-51 deals with the governor, but it has the best picture of my carb and the speed control lever I need. I'd post an actual pic of mine, but I can't get one.

I can't find the part number for for the speed control lever I need. The suggested speed control lever number 609631 is close, but it looks like that one is for the "early model" carb. My carb appears to be a "later model." My mower is model 5247, serial number 9510868, F100 engine.

Do any of you fellows know the part number for the speed control lever for my carb? Can you direct me to a source for one? This has myself and two local shops stumped. An old Lawn Boy dealer told me it's an obsolete part, and they don't know where to locate one.

Thanks, again, to everyone for helpful responses.

Partstree has this page: CARBURETOR GROUP FOR F100 ENGINES-EARLY PRODUCTION MODELS parts for the Lawn Boy 5247 - Lawn-Boy Walk-Behind Mower, 1980 (SN: 000000001-099999999) and it shows 609631 as the part number for both early and later model carbs, do you suppose it might work for both.

Looking at the manual pages you referenced and Googling around for various terms and looking at various items on eBay it looks like this might be what you're looking for:

Partstree.com: Lawn Boy 611070 LEVER S

Dewguy1999, you found it! That's it! You've solved a problem that stumped a local Toro dealer, two repair shops and myself. You saved me from having to call my former mother-in-law for advice. I'm indeed grateful!

The later style carb. used in 1980 would also be the same as the 1981 carb. Going to the parts listing for 1981 5247 models shows the correct parts for your carb. speed lever is #610832. Available at Lawn boy for $17.40 but their web site says it's discontinued. Try ordering it from your local dealer. It may still be instock because it does not say NLA. Your carb. should have a round adjusting collar not hex shaped.

Thanks, LB8210. I took a close look at the speed control lever #610832 you suggested and #611070 suggested by dewguy1999. They look a lot alike. The Toro web site shows three carb models were used by Lawn Boy on the model 5247 with F100 engine. It looks like part 611070 is the right one for my carb.

This was a tricky deal to figure out! A former LB dealer, two repair shops and myself were stumped. I appreciate you and the other men helping solve the puzzle. My 35 year old 1980 Lawn Boy 5247 is important to me. Now it will be percolating just about right again. It's parked beside my 44 year old 1971 model 5241. I hope all three of us have a few good years left. http://www.lawnmowerforum.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

I had looked at both parts and compared them to the blurry, low contrast photos in that manual and thought the #611070 was more like what I could see in the pic, the two parts are very similar but it's almost like they're a mirror image of each other with slight differences. Glad to hear that one of those parts will be the fix your Lawn-Boy needs. Please post back once you get the part replaced and let everyone know which one you used and how it worked out as it may help someone else in the future.

Thanks, snapperman57. I have already ordered one from an eBay listing. I'll post the repair results later so others may learn. Men on the forum have been helpful.
