I don't want to waste anymore time than I've already wasted (an hour +) but over an hour ago I needed help with erratic volts coming from my mower stator. Erratic meaning just that. The voltage output fluctuating. The volts are up the volts go down, pretty much self explanatory right with no need for model and such. The pictures I attached are results. Does anyone know why this happens? Everything on the outside and up from flywheel is good. Good meaning brand-new and tested. The only thing I could think of or that I have found (worthlessly) would be the inner magnets. What would be the symptoms of the inner flywheel magnets bad or broken? The mower stsrts, has run great throughout the summer now will only charge at hit and miss meaning it shows charging over 13 volts for three seconds then for a second drops to 2 volts or 4 volts then again over 13 volts for 3 seconds and then for a second drops to between 2 to 4 volts. That is my definition of erratic and if i should have worded it better please let me know to help myself in the future to find things. This is not hateful and I really don't expect a response since its not searchable. Thanks if there is a response.

Stator AC volts, tested before the rectifier, meaning the rectifier is not attached to the rectifier, are steady (meaning they are not erratic). They are 20 something AC volts all the way up to 50 AC volts from throttling it up. When pugging the dc rectifier up and checking the charge at the battery it, the multimeter, shows 13 something dc to 2 to 4 dc (volts) for a split second then back to regular charging (dc) volts and repeat. Repeat meaning it continues its same cycle of 13 something volts DC to 2 to 4 volts DC for a split second then back to 13+ regular charging DC volts. I'm tired from explaining this simple stuff and don't have the mental capacity of proof reading this so If I get a reply it should show up in my inbox and if noone still don't know what it is then screw it I'm done anyway and putting it back together because I already know where this will go and charge the battery every time i get done mowing. Thanks

If everything is connected and the battery voltage is dropping to 2-4 volts then you have a battery problem. Even if the charging system is not working you will still get battery voltage connected to the battery terminals with a volt meter. Most of the mower charging systems require battery voltate at the regulator for the internal electronic to close the micro switch inside to allow charge output. If the battery voltage is dropping below around 10 volts at the regulator the regulator will shutoff.

Bad stator and or voltage regulator/rectifier depending on what test reveals. I normally replace both. Remove and replace stator and voltage regulator or, continue charging your battery every time you mow. There is the answer.

Can even be that the stator mounting screws are simply loose if depends on one side being grounded the engine. Now the fun part you need to actually remove the flywheel and take a personal look see unless you have x-ray vision.

Now I did work one earlier this year where someone changed the starter. Well there is a small metal wire clip they failed to keep track of. It was pulled under the flywheel by the magnets. From there it did major damage shorting out the stator intermittently. Got lucky as it only chip a magnet or two lightly. But it still cause a lot problems with charging. Over half of the stator windings were burned which in the end made a full time short.
