My old drive belt was about shot so I replaced it with a new GX2006 stens equivalent. When the belt gets hotter, the mower wouldn't make slopes in forward or reverse. It's supposed to be an 89", like the spec belt. Should I get a shorter belt like a 87"? It does fine until it gets hotter, so I don't think it's the transmission or wheel key. The idler looks ok too.

Actually the GX20006 is 1/2" x 88.898"
Second it does sounds like the v-idler is worn out and the v-belt is bottoming out in the groove. A worn out v-idler has the same effect as installing a too long of belt.

Look at the bolts that hold your transmission to the frame, you may have lost one. Not the 4 on the axle area, but one in the center that
bolts to the frame. If it is missing, it will cause problems like that.
And check the pivot hole in the clutch bracket.
They flog out oval which will also cause the same symptoms.
A dragging brake can also cause similar problems.
Also a build up of debris under the mower preventing the clutch brakepedal fully returning to the drive position can cause symptoms.
