I hit a hole and bent the left axel on the mower. Is it a major repair or does it slip in like a truck axel?

Well you would need to pull the transaxle as got to open up the case. Where most automotive axle are held with c-clips these transaxle uses a ring retainer which maybe just a snap ring (Item 34) Once the snap is off the axle would just slide out.

Upon further inspection it wasn't the axel but the spacer that was all torn up don't know how but I just took it off an beat it back into shape.
