Scags STHM-20KH (3 wheel zero turn) runs but stopped moving

While operating my Scags STHM-20KH mower today it stopped moving either foward or reverse. No linkages from the foot pedal to the engine are broken. I am looking for tips on where to start researching on what is broken and what needs to be repaired. I will likely be calling a scags repair shop but want to educate my self on what will need to be looked at and repaired before doing so in order to make a good decision as to have it repaired or buy a new one. This is a mower that is over 20 years old with 1250 hours on it. Has been operating well with maint. over the years.

The drive belt was off the pulley pump. It was not broken but it does look a little worn. I was able to put it back on the pulleys and the mower does drive fine.

What would cause the belt to slip off? I was going over some bumpy terrain but not too fast.

From being worn, cracked, etc. & possibly a worn out pulley. If & when you do replace belt, I suggest you use manufacturer OEM belt. Belts do get hot during operation & should be inspected every time you service your mower.

On older mowers I some times need to fit smaller belts to compensate for wear in the pulley .
Note this is usually another OEM belt that is a fraction of an inch shorter.
OEM belts are generally funny sizes like 124 + 25/32 " long.
Going down a whole inch as would happen if you bought a belt from Wally mart can cause a lot of damage for the sake of an extra $ 20.
