I have a 2018 liberty z with 18hp kawasaki. It will turn over but not start. If I unplug the white "kill" wire from the coils it will crank and run fine. I replaced the pto switch with no change. I also replaced the ignition switch and it fixed the problem for about a day. Kinda stumped any help is appreciated.
I you do not already have one, go to the Scag web site and download the parts book for your mower ( you will need the info off the id tag ) .
The final page has the wiring diagram
The white wire is a ground wire so it is either ground ( in kill mode ) or open in run mode .
Scag actually know how to draw a wiring diagram so it is easy to follow
PTO, Lap bars, brake .
One of the switches is not working or the wires between them are shorting to ground.

Better download the owners manual for your model and serial number. The kill circuit goes thru the lap bars, PTO, seat, and ignition switches. Any one along with a bare wire can cause problems.
There you go. it is the second last page in the owners manual as well
Kill wire through the seat switch is out of circuit while the parking brake is on
