RX95 - mower belt flies off after disengaging

Hey all,
newcomer to the forums, I appreciate any suggestions/feedback about this. I picked up an old RX95 RER, and for the most part it's in pretty good shape. However, anytime I engage then disengage the mower deck, the belt flies off. I've put the belt on 5 times testing this out, making sure I have everything properly installed, and without fail, it just comes undone. what was a brand new belt, is now a frayed, tattered mess.

there doesn't seem to be anything missing, and all the guides that keep the belt close to the pulleys are in place. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Make sure that you are using the correct belt length.

Turn the switch off and with the blade tensioner engaged and the belt tight, pull it through by hand and watch how the belt tracks on the pulleys. Might try pulling the belt through with the blade dis-engaged as well just to see if there is a pulley out of line etc. Could be a pulley or bent bracket out of line causing the belt to ride either high or low and jump or slide off the pulley.

Also make sure your pulleys aren't difficult to turn. I have seen belts pop off or shred when something wraps around the shaft above the blade, for instance wire, fishing line, etc.

well, looking at a diagram I found it looks like there's a guide for the rear pulley that bolts on, that is missing. add one more part to the shopping list at the dealer tomorrow :) hopefully after that things are runnin' smooth.
