Just go through the section on how to adjust the governor.

Well, that took care of it. There were some hints in the manual that I hadn't seen in other on line suggestions. Runs great now, but when I went to push it out to the yard, the rear (drive) wheels are locked up. Since it's not running and the handle is not pushed down to engage the drive belt, I'm guessing I will need to remove the transmission/drive assembly to see what's got the gears locked up. Before I took that all apart (and the manual is going to be a great help there) thought I'd check to see if you had any suggestions.

Thanks again for all the help so far.

Don't take the tranny apart!!! Check the drive wheels and gears first. MAke sure that they are clean, gears mesh properly and have a VERY LIGHT COAT of OIL on them.

Will do and right after I hit reply I realized the manual is for the engine not the mower. I do have one for the mower so my brain just wan't connecting. Thanks again.

Gears were clean but very dry. Oiled them. Anyway to add some grease to the transmission itself?

Yes, but be careful. Tip the mower on it's side, carb up. Carefully remove the tranny cover and you should be able to add some grease.

Sorry for the delay. I meant to respond the next day and it just got away from me. When I took the tranny cover off, the grease inside it was solid, not like a rock but it wasn't moving around and greasing anything either. Completely cleaned it out and filled it back up with fresh grease. Everything now runs like a charm. Your help was very valuable to me. Thanks, I appreciate it. Better yet, my daughter and her roommates that have been using a very old vibrating lawn mower will be thrilled with this one.

Out of curiosity, do you know anything about changing up replacement blades? I have a Honda HRR2166VKA mulching mower that runs fine but if I'm cutting off anything more than a 1/2 of an inch, it does not even come close to mulching it. Both blades are sharp so it's not an issue of dull blades. I'm looking to try a different version to see if I can improve the mulching quality.

I would send a PM to Robert@Honda. He is the top guy on this forum when it comes to Honda questions.

Get the micro cut blades to replace the quadracut blades worked like a charm for me
