I just rebuilt the carb on a Tecumseh LV195EA - 6.5 hp engine on a Toro mower. When I started it up it really took off but now is running at very high RPM. I didn't change the governor setting to my knowledge. Any thoughts on what could be the cause would be appreciated!

Hooking up the linkage between the governor arm and the throttle wrong is probably the cause. The solid linkage goes in the top hole of the governor arm and the linkage with the spring goes in the second hole.

I thought about that and checked it earlier before I posted, but I'll check again in the morning. I also wondered if I could have accidentally moved the gov arm while removing the carb or reinstalling it. I appreciate the suggestion and am glad to take anything I can get from an instructor.

One thing I forgot to add is that the other end of the solid link goes in the hole on the throttle plate farthest away from the governor arm.

OK, but there's a lot of holes in the throttle plate. I'd put a picture on if I knew how.

After you hook it up, check that with the engine off the throttle should be wide open, but you should be able to move the governor arm to closed the throttle by hand. The hole on the throttle plate should be the far left one, with the throttle closed.

Yep, governor movement will close throttle and arm is in far left hole. So, sounds like I need to adjust governor arm to the right just a bit.

Just go through the section on how to adjust the governor.
