I have a 2005 Troy Bilt Bronco, and m have a REAL issue with the variable speed belt. Got the right belt, according to troy bilt/Lowe's, but it is too long, mower will not even move. I can't seem to find a belt that will work. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

Which belt ?
Upper belt ?
Lower belt ?
What was the part number of the belt ?
and on the subject of numbers what is the model number of our mower ?
I got 23 sets of varidrive belts in th shop that I commonly replace.

It is the lower belt, part# 954-0467A. This is supposed to be the right belt, but WAY to loose. Model# 13AT609G766

part# 954-0467A is a belt 90.5" outside circumference and 21/32" wide.
Only an orignal MTD belt or Oregon aftermarket belt can be used as they are the only ones that are 21/32 and not 5/8"
Next the sliding sheave ( double pulley )must be free to move up & down or the whole thing won't work
And the top belt must be instaled properly and in good condition or the whole thing won't work.
I always replace them as a pair

Next make sure you have the belt running the right way round the pulleys it is very easy to route them backwards when you have the brake on and the pulleys have moved to allow the belt to run loose.
Lay under the mower and get some one to work the pedal a few times
