I just replaced the head on my 22hp inteck Briggs and Stratton model 407777 Type 0607-E2. When I went to adjust the valves I just can't get any clearance for the feeler gauge. Trying to figure out what's the problem and the solution. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED Thanks, Dave

Are you on Top Dead Center (TDC) when attempting to adjust?

Yes sir just like all the videos I've watched. The other cylinder is set perfect. This one it just seems like the push rods are a 1/32th to big or something. If that makes any sense.

Push rods have a finite length.
Back off on adjustment until gauge slides through easily.

1) duouble check you are on TDC compression & not TDC exhaust, we have all done it.
2) Double check ( strong flashlight ) that the pushrod is sitting in the cup on the follower and not catching on the edge, we have all been there too.
3) check the tips on the pushrod they can come loose making the pushrod longer.

I set my former Briggs @ 1/4" past TDC to be off the compression release on the cam. Run like new after.

You don't have to be on TDC, you don't have to take out spark plugs.

EOIC (Exhaust Opening; Intake Closing)

Turn the engine in the running direction until you see the EXHAUST valve start to OPEN. Set the INTAKE valve clearance.

Turn the engine in the running direction until the INTAKE valve just finishes CLOSING. Set the EXHAUST valve clearance.

Repeat if you have more than one cylinder.
