Hi all I have a castle garden xdc 140 with a Briggs and Stratton Engine. Initially it wouldn’t turn over at all so I thought the battery but this is fine. I thought maybe the break switch so I put the parking prake on and with this I was able to start the engine but as soon as I release the key into the run position it shuts off. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Heard rumor that Briggs made more than one engine. Might need your engine numbers so we can help you.

Explain what fine means to you. Was the battery load tested? Resembles a battery sitting on your mower? Looks like one at an auto parts store? Plastic box with 2 cables on it?

Oh, oh, oh, we are getting close. Sounds like the safety slash parking brake switch is working as it should.
but as soon as I release the key into the run position it shuts off.
Sounds like another safety switch not working proper. Disconnect the kill wire off the ignition coil. If the engine is good, should start and run the fuel tank dry. Test remaining safety switches till you find the bad one.

I'm not familiar with your mower. Maybe someone else can chime in here to assist.

CastleGarden service information is hard to come by
It sound like You have one of the models that a uses single relay to switch the starter solenoid & the magnet kill that has failed
