Replacing steering post and gear in 2554 Husq

I'm getting ready to replace the steering post and gear in my 2554 Husqvarna tractor. It appears that the steering wheel is pulled and then the spring-like pin is pulled and then the post with gear comes out through the bottom. Is this correct or is there an easier way? Any hints on dropping the deck? Thanks, Gearjammer
