Replacing broken parking brake handle

I have a 10 year old Craftsman Lawn Tractor Model 917.27664 and need to replace the parking brake handle. I cannot reach the cable to which it is attached from the front of the tractor near the gas tank. Any suggestions as to how to replace would be appreciated.

try getting a friend or neighbor to assist you or remove part 160 clutch rod retaining clip. click on ground drive & zoom in.
