Ok so my MTB skills saved the day.
It wasn't as easy as I thought. The cable was too long, but only a little bit too long. Too long to pull the throttle open, but short enough that there really wasn't enough to bolt on.
But because I had to cut the lower fitting off the cable anyway, I could slide the cable out of the housing and snip two inches off of the housing, giving me plenty of slack in the cable. I cut a little groove, made a few washers as spacers, cranked it tight and then put an end cap on it so the end of the cable wouldn't get frayed.
It looks and feels pretty solid. I'll actually mow with it friday and see how it holds up.
