I have a Briggs and Stratton engine (124702 3214-01). I need to replace the carburetor. On the B&S web page, the carb for this motor is not available. Everywhere I have searched the same results. The part numbers are 494217/496114. These are listed on Amazon and eBay but they do not fit. I have ordered three and have returned all of them. Does anyone know what carb fits this engine. I cannot believe there is not a substitution. Any help appreciated.
And what is it that makes them not fit
I have fitted dozens of the aftermarket ones without any problems
Note there are 2 versions of this carb
One with choke & one without choke for use on primer models

494217 Choke carburetor
496114 Primer carburetor
Yes they one of easiest carburetor to service. Now primer version will not prime properly after service removal of the air cleaner base but it not the carburetor fault. Instead it is the air cleaner base being warped and specially made gasket will resolve that problem. The other problem that many DIYer over look is the fuel bowl retainer is the main jet and does clog up.
And yes every since Briggs sold out to the financial investment company they have NLA a lot of parts. I even ran across a new engine that parts were NLA. I my opinion it looks like Briggs is dying a slow death because lack of after the sale support now.

as other's stated, these are rebuildable. What specifically is the reason they don't fit?
