replacement blade brake cable bolens 34050 petrol mower

i cant find a replacement cable for the blade brake on the web they only go back to 2003

my mower is 1995 see pics added for plate on back of mower

cheaking around they went bust in 2002 and opened up again under the name of bolens

my idea is to place a push bike brake lever adjuster top and bottem with a nut on the back to hold in place

and use a bike brake cable threaded through the bottem the the cable and looped around the top brake bar

wht do you guy think ?

Yeah, Bolens/Gardenway/Troybilt went under and MTD absorbed it back then, most of all of the Bolens stuff became NLA almost immediately... But since that is just a pushmower, any shop should be able to come up with a working cable for you if they have access to the mower to make measurements.

I havent been able to find anything either. Is there any numbers still visible on the old cable?

Doesn't really matter...But if you have a buddy with microfiche, you could get a part number... I have sold a couple sets of microfiche for Bolens in the past, sold real well.......

If you can find a repair shop in your area that has a MTD control cable part #946-1130 or 946-04173E, measure these cables and your cable. I think that one will be close enough to interchange. Also, it is not a blade break cable, but an engine control cable.

Or would that be a "Blade Brake Cable"?????

Yeah, if someone could come up with an original Bolens part number, you may get the right part...

I you worked on the engines, you would recognize that the cable is hooked to the engine brake.

Take the cable to a bike repair shop and have them make you a new one.

It sucks when you break a brake cable that stops the engine.

Sounds like you are just coming up with chit cause you don't like me.......

But either way, Bolens has been out of biz for a decade, so putting up the "manual" was a waste of time......

About the same waste of time as you posting, but not knowing the difference between a blade brake cable and an engine control cable. Plus some people like to have the manuals for their old equipment.

P.S. You are correct, I really don't care for you, but that's just me the troublemaker, read my signature.

i can solder but what sort of watttage would you need to solder this ?

thanks for all the help angel

Soldering it back together will be extremely difficult, because of the amount of tension put on the cable. I suggest that if you try to put it together you use cable clamps which will be able to hold up to the tension needed.

Why don't you just go get a new one made?????

#18

R

The reason they don't get a new one is that no one has been able to find a parts breakdown for this old unit. Because the only way to find one is to find someone who still has the micro-fiche cards for GardenWay, which has been bought and sold four times. My contact at MTD is looking for me, but even he says it is unlikely they will have any breakdown available.

I get why he does not BUY a new one but he can take the old one and have a new one MADE. All he needs is the two ends and the length.

This is a stranded wire cable, not solid wire, much more difficult to make and very few have tools or parts to do so.

I know what it is.

I have been getting cables made for years.
For one as small as he needs he can go to a bicycle repair shop and they can make him one with his ends or they can get ends that would work for him.

Or he can buy a roll and new ends and crimp them himself it is very easy and done with tools everyone has on their tool chest.

If all he needs is a loop on the end he can just weave a loop.

This is pretty basic stuff to do

By looking at the pics that is a easy cable to find one that will work.
