Replaced plastic wheels on my L-B 5247

I grew tired of the plastic wheels on my Lawn-Boy 5247 19" mower degrading, so I bought after-market steel 6" front and 8" rear wheels. Unfortunately, the offset is different and there is a lot of slop due to gaps in the shoulder bolts and the hub of the steel wheels. I tried shimming with extra washers and that only helped marginally. Has anyone successfully retrofitted their L-B with steel wheels?
