replaced engagement cable...still not working

Any help would appreciated...
Was cutting the grass the other day...all of a sudden, blades stopped spinning. Found the spring on the end of the engagement cable had broke.
Replaced that yesterday(seems a bit tight, but it is all hooked up). Blades will still not engage.
Could two things have broken at the exact same time? Not sure what else to check.
I'm about a week behind in cutting the back yard now.

So when you engage the blades, is the belt tight? If not make sure idler bracket isn't jammed up with a rock or stick.
