Simplicity 1693601. When I turn the steering wheel all the way to the right I am unable to return the wheels to straight. If I turn steering wheel it just clicks and no movement from the front wheels. If I manually turn the front tires to the left the steering will "catch" and turn normally with the steering wheel all the way to the left. Only problem is when I turn all the way to the right. I see there is a steering gear and a gear on the bottom of the steering wheel shaft. Is it advised to replace both? Thank you!

Does the spring pin at the steering wheel (#3) and the cotter pin (#6) both have to be removed to take out the steering shaft? I have never had good luck getting that spring pin at the steering wheel out on other mowers.Yes, you must remove from below, as the gear is part of the shaft.
