Don't know what you have, but I had the seat switch bypassed and was using mower...had some problem, so I bypassed the brake switch....It would then die when engaging PTO.
You can't bypass all safeties is my first thought.

have no idea why anyone would mess with the governor springs. enlighten me.

first and for most - STOP !
safety switches are a pain, but there for a reason. If you disable them, you become the manufacture of record and are liable for the machine. no matter how good of a friend, if they get hurt or worse, you will be sued, and will lose in court.
get a wiring schematic and fix it right.
If you do this, i will help walk you through the repair.

Why did you remove the springs?
