Removing starter on 23 hp kawasaki on 52 inch exmark lazer hp

Can anyone give me the directions for removing the starter on this engine. Put in new battery and new solenoid. When turning key engine will not turn over as if starter is stuck. Rapped starter with a hammer. Nothing.

Before you fork out the $ 200 for a new starter connect you battery direct to the starter and see if it spins.
