Rear wheels won't roll freely

I have a snapper FRP216012 that wont roll freely. I picked it up for $30 because it wouldn't stay running... I think I have that problem almost fixed, and then the wheels locked up on me when I was rolling it to the front yard. If I lift the mower up, they will spin in opposite directions freely. I can't see any binding, but the gear case does look a little low on grease... any ideas? Also, it seems to run fine if I start it with the gas cap unscrewed slightly, so I replaced the cap. New cap, same problem. I'm wondering if a stuck float?

Might be a bad gearbox, I've had a couple like that. I've just swapped it out with another, I've never opened it up and looked inside. If u can find an axle on eBay or another parts mower that would probably be the easiest way to fix that issue.

The gas cap may not be venting. I'd check to see if the vent is plugged up. There's my .02, hope I helped some!

I appreciate it, but I did buy a new gas cap... issue still exists. I'm thinking that the float may be stuck, and the atmospheric pressure of releasing the cap is enough to "un-stick it". As to the wheels, it's odd, because I mowed with it once already, the wheels moved freely for a few days, and the self-propel still works... but I cannot pull it backwards now when the self-propel is not engaged, or push it forward. it's like there's something bound somewhere only when the self-propel is not engaged. I just can't seem to tell where.

Is the new gas cap vented ? Did you test the vent ?

Add some Seafoam to the gas to help clean out the carb.

I bought the B&S cap... how do I test the vent? I had added some seafoam to the gas and the crank as well. I've done three oil changes on it because the last guy didn't look to have done one in forever, so the oil is getting dirty pretty quickly.

I'm not sure how to test the cap itself but try not screwing the cap all the way tight, leave it slightly loose and see if the engine will start and stay running. That may answer if there's a venting issue.

"I bought the B&S cap... how do I test the vent?" Well, with cap removed you take the outside of the cap & wrap your fingers around like a funnel & Blow into it, if vent is working properly, you will (of course) get air coming thru the inside of the cap.

Simple..

Air hose will work also, but that is a Lot of psi, too much imo..

Thanks for the help. Anyone got any ideas about the wheels? That's what really has me worried right now lol.
