Why is is when people come here for help they won't answer a few simple basic questions.

I don't like wasting my time. I don't have all that much remaining.

Senior, A number of reasons IMO...What may seem simple to you and me may be foreign and threatening to them. Some are lurkers (perhaps too nasty a term?) who want to get involved but realize they do not have the background. And...the American disease is instant gratification and solution, like pills... Unfortunately as basic as these tractors are they incorporate Ohms law and metallurgy and....well you know...and the overiding asset of the familiar user "experience." Success is not instant and that's why mechanics earn and deserve their pay. Many times in this forum I see that pro's will help a novice who has tried to fix a problem and cannot. So I suggest if readers can, they help, and if they cannot they observe. Cheers!

That's the reason I said basic simple questions. If they don't know whether they bought original equipment John Deere, Murray, or MTD etc. belts but purchased belts at Uncle Joe's Automotive Discount store they maybe shouldn't even own a mower and hire the grass cut.

I have thoughts about this.

I know when I first came here I posted my problem and everything I had done.
I got jumped and was told i made it up that the engine could not run.
And still 3 years later no one on here knows why.

People take done questions the wrong way. Or how the question is asked.

I see it every day now on here. A first time poster gets asked questions that they know do not have to be asked. And with a bad tone.

To many people getting on one thread with 100 different answers.
Or most of the self named techs can only tell you to clean the carb or adjust the valves.
Asking for model numbers and being rude about it. If a engine is getting gas in the oil. No need to know the model number. We all know why.

As someone who has asked for help here (as well as on other internet forums) I try to provide as much information as I can, but, I've seen that backfire on me when people think the post is too long or wordy and either don't read all of it or just skim it and then ask for information already provided. I've also provided information or made reply to people "helping" and then they never reply back. I guess this topic is like most things and there are 2 sides to it.

A refill for me is the times this forum solves a problem and is thanked. I also have belonged to "big ego" forums whose members mostly think their s### don't stink. There I have provided help with pictures and then, when I asked for help, nothing. This forum is among the best because there is LOTS of knowledge and experience which, for the most part, is freely given. And hats off to professionals who share when their knowledge could be considered "trade secrets" and money in their shop. I think some of my blather surely irritates, but is endured. Keep up the good work in this forum. I remember how many teachers I should have thanked when young . Someone said these forums help observers as well as responders.

I have also learned a lot here.

I think what makes this forum better then most is there is not just shop owners here. We have guys that went to school to become techs and we have guys that just learn by doing.

You can get good advice on how to trouble shoot and fix a engine.
Or how to set up a mower.

We have some very good reviews on just about any type mower.

The fact that not all of us agree on how to troubleshoot a problem or how to fix it.
Gives a way for everyone to get the mower fixed.
