Please kill whomever designed quick release blades. Then mow over them several times with a mulcher Cub Cadet GX50 mower until they are perfectly blended into the lawn. If you can find someone that was able to take the old ones off. If they were able to get the new ones on. If they were able to get the mower up enough to get the leverage needed to push up on the springs. If this post does not adhere to your guidelines, please just delete this. I will go ahead and shoot myself to put me out of my misery. It's easier than trying to replace these POS blades again. Ever. Ever. Ever.

I have never seen these on a mower, so had to look it up to understand. Looks like a poor design. Probably made to accommodate those people complaining about how hard it is to take off blades after they have been on for two years, have hit multiple objects, and have self tightened.

Someone must have come up with a way to convert the fast attach system to the conventional MTD star shaped spindles and blades.
Mower Deck Parts Plus sells conversion kits. Sight unseen, I don't know if they will work.
It's possible that you could remove one of the fast attach spindles and have it matched to the MTD six star spindle. The overall length and bolt pattern must be the same.

Most likely you have to change spindles assemblies and blades. You can't convert the current spindles due the housings are a different length. This particular I haven't seen but they are like the Husqvarna system it is just a design to get the lazy money until they find what a poor design they are. Everything would have to be stainless steel in order not to rust up. The Husqvarna system is even worst as even the blade mounts get bent.

Yes, the spindles and blades will need to be replaced. Mower Deck Parts Plus sells conversion kits. I don't know of the quality. There may be a MTD Star spindle that will work. Of course it will need to be matched to the quick attach spindle length and bolt pattern.

This is a poor design, no doubt. I am sure the spindles for the “fast attach” blades are more expensive, I know the “S” blades are more expensive. Also, it doesn’t look that secure. They tried to reinvent the wheel and failed. It reminds me of the John Deere “Easy Change” oil filter, that is another turd design.

It is a poor design. Corrosion and grass buildup will cause all sorts of problems with those spindles. Blade and spindle replacement will cost more than the 6 point star blade and spindle replacement.
I would definitely yank that system off during the first blade change.

Boy what a mess was that JD easy change. The only one that I have come across was screwed from the factory and most never got it off. Whoever install it had to use brute force as it was only half lock in place which also screwed up the mount.

I just suggested to the customer to do a conversion which he allowed me to do. Now when the oil is fully changed, not half way done, and it cost less to do so.
