Just found and joined this group. Sure hope someone can help me out here. Husband is trying to replace broken Pump Drive Belt on our Scag Wildcat 52" mower. He can get it on the mower but it is too tight to attach the idler pulley. I have done extensive searches on the web and can not find any resource to help resolve the problem. Have confirmed we have the correct belt (part #482531) via Scag. It was purchased from a Scag Dealership. Is there some "trick" to getting the belt on for a proper fit. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

loop the belt around the pumps and engine.
Check the idler pulley tensioning arm.
There may be a square hole in it.
If so you put the longest 1/2" drive breaker bar you have in there and use it to lever agains the spring.
If not you can try a long spannar.
An elderly widdow I do repairs for uses a ratchet tie down over the tensioning arm anchored on to the mower body to pull the arm back .

I have done the same thing. I've used ratchet tie downs anchored to something stable. My truck, for instance. I have since fashioned a piece from a ratchet used to pull fence tight, from Tractor Supply. Looks awful. Works like a dream. I could never get the breaker bar trick pulled tight enough. Plus, you would need 2 people. 1 to pull and another to attach belt. Be careful. This is knuckle abuse. Good Luck.
