I have a 2000 Murray rider mower model # 40507x8A. The motion drive belt came off the pulley drive ( sits on the transaxle). While i was putting the chewed up belt back on I noticed the pulley drive plate was wobbly. My question is how much play should be in the pulley drive plate? Could this be the cause of the belt coming off? I do plan to replace the worn out belt. Would it be worth replacing the key, woodruff and e-rings. Are there bearings in the drive pulley?

thanks for your help

Yes, there is an input shaft kit with the bearings, spacers, e-rings etc. You'll have to find a tag on the side of the trans for a model number, it may be a peerless or a foote/dana/spicer/etc.

How involved is it to install the input shaft kit? Could a wkend hacker get this done?
Thanks

The kit is not all that hard.
Take pics as you take things apart.

The pulley should have just a little bit of wobble.
If the belt is worn real bad it will come of the pulleys.

If you need to ask these questions then no "a wkend hacker" can not "get this done".......
