PTO Switch Shorts out

Hello to you all,
Hope someone has seen this before.
I have a Cub Cadet LT-1045 that is on the third PTO switch in 5 years. Are the switches just junk or do you think there is a short somewhere?
Any ideas?

If you are going through switches... put a fuse on the line that feeds the PTO switch... if there is ever an over current situation the fuse will fail and not take out the switch...

You may have an intermittent short in the wiring that feeds the PTo clutch... OR inside the PTO clutch itself ... The fuse will protect the switch... :smile:KennyV

What size fuse do you think I would need to put on it?

Most electric clutches will draw 4 or 5 amps...
fuse it at 10 amp, your switches should handle a surge of 10 amps and if it is an intermittent short, the fuse will open before the PTO switch is damaged... :smile:KennyV

As KennyV said it may be a bad pto clutch. fusing it may help but it would not hurt to have the clutch tested. it could be that the clulch itself is heating up and cuasing the power draw.
