Okay, I added an inline fuse. Mowed the lawn from start to finish with blades rotating all the time, I like being able to mow in reverse. It missed just a few times after mowing for about 20 minutes, but it didn't quit altogether or disengage the blades, so I'm happy to report that I won't have to buy a new mower just yet.
