Prime Fuel Pump Cub Cadet RZT 42

I have a Cub Cadet RZT 42 with a Briggs and Stratton 31f777-0318-e1 motor.

I removed the fuel filter without clamping the lines. Now it won't start and fuel isn't being sucked into the filter (filter has clear case).

Do I need to prime the fuel pump? If so, how?

no on priming fuel pump, make sure you have new fuel filter installed correctly, fuel in with fuel out arrow pointing to fuel pump. if it still will not fire up unclamp filter at one end & fill with gas then reclamp & give it a try.

Some fuel filters have a sort of check valve in them, most don't
However the fuel outlet opening is in the middle of the filter, not the end, thus you can get air locks if they are installed outlet pointing up
If you can blow both ways through the filter and it has to be vertical the fit it wrong way round.
It will still work but you will not be able to see the crud because it will be on the other side of the paper.
Big pieces of debris will also block off the filter but for $ 2 - $ 4 just change the thing every season.

Poring gas in the fuel line didn't work well. I took off the fuel line at the carb and gas started to flow.
