As I read your post,I do not take the square headed bolt off, just spread the clamp to get the pivot/ axle out of there and then do the same thing on the mower that I need it to go on?

I was able to find a parts blow up of the mower on the MTD site finally. I see what I need and they are much less expensive than I had anticipated. I will try and use the arm / axle off of my parts mower. If that does not work I will get the parts new from MTD.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks!

That is not a square headed bolt on the steering arm.. The top of the steering spindle is square which locks the arm in place. Spread where the gap is and it should come off and the spindle should come out at that point.

something to check before going through a lot of trouble, is look at the center of the axle where the big hole is at the pivot point. They tend to wear there and will collapse

Thank you! I will try and get the one off of the parts mower first and see how hard it is to do.

Thanks again!
