Hello I have a B&S 19hp single cylinder ohv.
The mower was bought 7 years ago, the owners put gas in and ran until very soon it started knocking. Loud enough to call the police if you heard it.
I bought and noticed they never put oil in it. I added oil and it started rite up but, there was the noise I was told about. !!!!!!
I tore engine down and all it needed was both counter weight links. Ordered, installed and started. Different but loud quick tapping noise. Had a friend listen and said the valves were out of adjustment. He adjusted but never tightened center set screw to keep setting locked. I started and a loud rattle ensued. I re adjusted to B&S specs. Now I start no problem but it still has a loud almost high treble like quick tapping and a massive amount of smoke. The valves were cleaned, measured, and seats checked by me all seems great.
I am at a loss and cannot afford another engine
Any help will be forever appreciated..
The full engine number would be a big help
The colour of the smoke would also be a help
If you put a pry bar under the flywheel how far can you lift it ?
Are you dead sure the pushrods are seated properly & not bent ?
